Not a really real post...

Its really busy at work. I haven't had a lot of time to post, but still determined to put something up tonight.  Here are two sweet things I found today.

Snowy Monday links

It snowed a sackload all over New England and the midatlantic, lifting legs than shovelling yesterday was the worst feeling ever.  The Boston Globe has some solid reader pictures up http://www.boston.com/community/photos/raw/onassignment/2010/122610_snow/#/item-6915 I hope everyone didn't need to work today like I did.

Frisbee: Since it is the offseason for ultimate right now, there has been a noticable lack of good ultimate media recently, sides the Skyd magazine previews (keep up the good work).  Thus I'm gonna try and find some solid throwback videos and pictures to keep everyone pumped for First Night/when its nice enough out to play.  For today, here are some ridiculous Callahan nominee videos.

-Michael Stout was a monster for Claremont back in the day.  Here is his 2008 highlight video, but also check out his 2007 one.  His brother is the captain of Truckstop for everyone on the East Coast http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnW72-7CT5Q&feature=player_embedded#!
-Jolian Dahl, Mamabird stud, currently playing for Johnny Bravo, layout at 1:42 is insane http://www.vimeo.com/1012004
-Will Neff, Michigan 09 callahan winner, this video is really well produced to go along with the nasty highlights http://vimeo.com/4402692
-Mac Taylor, another Mamabird baller, just won Worlds and Nationals with Revolver http://vimeo.com/4626486
-Tim Gehret Florida 06, hes short, so all his skies are that much more impressive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtAoZzffzys

I hope those are good to get people pumped for now... check back tomorrow for more classic ultimate links

Boston Sports Post

Couple of great Boston themed articles today.  Barstool already posted one but I promise found it without barstools help.  nfl.com is not blocked at work for some reason while barstool is.  Anyway enjoy

Also, Kendrick Perkins started actively participating in practice yesterday.  Non Celtics fans be scared.  While Shaq has been doing a monster job as center, imagine him making his presence known with the 2nd unit while Perk brings his more athletic self to the starters. Obviously have more to say on the subject, but have a family dinner to attend.  Happy Holidays

Game of the year (so far)

Okay so I just got done with watching the ridiculousness that was tonight's Celtics vs. Knicks game.  Just some quick reactions to it, as it was an awesome game to watch.

-The Knicks are good this year.  Amare is ridiculous, Gallinari is a good offensive player, and Felton and Amare are starting to have really good chemistry.  Whatever, everyone already has said that.  On top of that, they gave the Celtics their best shot.  I couldnt believe the shots that were falling, and the Knicks definitely left it out on the floor tonight.

-That being said, I don't think the Knicks are built for a playoff run.  a) Their style of offense is not conducive to winning a series.  They don't have that great of an organized offense, relying more on their studs to make plays (read Amare and Felton to play pick and roll/pop) and for players like Gallinari and Wilson Chandler to knock down jump shots.  In a best of 7 series, they won't shoot nearly as well as they did tonight and the other team will have plenty of time to try different defensive looks.  b) They don't have a real big.  Amare is nasty, but against a center like Bynum, Shaq or Dwight Howard, he doesnt have as much of a shot.  Plus if Amare is guarding another big like that, who'll guard the other teams power forward? c) The Knicks are not good at defense.  Even if they put up over 100 like tonight, they give up easy looks to more organized offenses.

-Not taking away from the Knicks offensive performance, cuz it was really good, but the Celtics did not play great defense tonight.  They let the Knicks smaller guys into the paint far too easily, as well as beaten off the dribble by players not named Stoudemire or Felton far too often.  I think this will be different once Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal come back (if Jermaine comes back) but the inside defense was not amazing.  The celtics still rebounded really well though.

-Gallinari is a giant bitch.  He had two plays tonight that were giant flops.  The charge he tried to take against Pierce? in the 2nd or 3rd quarter where he just propelled himself backwards while still moving sideways was bad and then on the 3 point play after Ray hit the 3 to give the Celtics the lead was just atrocious.  he just moved his head a little and got a call.  Pierce still shouldn't have given up the lane that easily, but he still didnt touch Gallinari.

-Nate Robinson and Danny Woodhead, two small New York team rejects that have made it in Boston.  Love it.  That being said, I really like the way Nate plays.  Tommy Heinsohn said it best tonight, Nate just loves to play basketball.  Him falling over Pierce was hilarious.

-Tonight's game really compounded just how bad the referees in the NBA have been this year.  Although I believe that the Celtics didn't get as many calls as they shouldve, thats besides the point.  The game was not reffed as it shouldve been.  Calls on both sides were missed, and ones made that shouldnt have been called.  If the NBA is gonna take a stricter stand on games, then just call a lot of stuff.  If they're gonna let players play, then let them play.  No need to randomly mix and match the two philosophies, it makes for less interesting basketball.  Lets not even talk about the delay of game technical on Garnett.  Watch the replays, its silly.

-I really hope Rondo's ankle isn't serious.  I love that he kept on playing, but it was obviously bothering him.  Hopefully Doc will sit him tomorrow or sometime soon to rest it.

-Have to appreciate the Celtics effort at the line tonight.  A perfect showing.  At one point in the 3rd one of the celtics broadcasters (yes I watched it on the local broadcast) made a comment that the Celtics were getting killed in free throws because they hadnt taken as many.  But them hitting clutch shots from the stripe towards the end of the game swung it in their favor.  My heart legit almost stopped when KG was at the line with a minute left.

-Ray Allen vs. Reggie Miller, whos the better 3 point shooter? Ray looked SO good tonight

Okay, that was far more writing than I planned, but hey, gotta get feelings out.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that was the best game in the NBA so far this year.  It is December, the game means little in the long run, but it was awesome to watch.  The atmosphere, especially in the second half, at MSG was great.  Very playoff esque.  The players came to play, not getting too chippy, but definitely playing like it was in the playoffs.  There were great plotlines (aka the two teams winning streaks) going into the game.  2 great matchups in KG vs. Stoudemire and Rondo vs. Felton, even though that second one didnt live up to everything KG vs. Amare was.  I hope there are more games like this played this season, regardless of who is playing.  So yeah, those are my thoughts on tonight.  Barstool knee jerk reactions, eat your hearts out.

SotD and Get Ho 12/6/10

Well, I made it through one day of work and still decided to put up a post, so I take that as a good sign. If work didnt block everything website known to man, this would be a lot easier to update I feel.

Before getting to the links, quick Get Ho Ho Ho recap. Played in a 1 day tournament in 35 degree weather on Cape Cod yesterday. Although not as large as the Saturday division, still had a ton of fun. Made up of a core of Merge players plus friends, the Happy Hanukkah Huckers took to a Christmas themed tournament with a vengeance. 8 dudes, 4 girls for a mixed tournament was almost the perfect number for a 1 day tournament. Coulda used a girl or 2 more I think, but oh well. Definitely got through it. Major props to the ladies for gutting it out.

Going into it, it kinda sucked that we got relegated to Div 2, cuz there was no chance to move up and I thought our team definitely had the potential to play higher. While our results proved that thought right, I realized that I was entirely okay with playing where we were. We played 5 games, 3 pool play, a semi final and the finals. And went... undefeated! It was awesome. Highlight of the day was definitely being down 6-3 in the finals in a game to 11 and going on an 8-1 run to win. Once the defensive intensity picked up, it was over. We got awesome schwag at the end (tshirts, champagne and a trophy) as well as found an excellent local Italian place to warm up in and grub hard.

I highly recommend this tournament to anyone in the New England area looking to get a last day of ultimate in before it gets too cold. I'll hopefully have the time and to try and play both days next year. Maybe even put together a Jive team?

Anyway, on to the links:

I would add something about Qatar getting the world cup, but everyone I know is already pissed about it and its just not worth it. Its BS in my opinion, yeah theres an argument to put a huge event in a smaller market to make it a larger market. But why not just put one of the most popular sporting events on the largest stage possible?

Is anyone actually reading this?

So doing my daily scan of RSD (No Spam), I found a post by ultimate Rob (a Canadian blogger), who regularly makes post about ultimate fitness, throwing skills, strategy, etc. I find this stuff interesting, so I read a lot of it. This post was really cool, and is pretty applicable to all ultimate situations.

On a related, throwback note, also check out zips tips. While not as serious as this checklist, still awesome and from one of the best ultimate players in the world, josh ziperstein. All ultimate players should read Zip's Tips at one point in their lives, its pretty hilarious and takes up plenty of time if you're bored. Captains, send this out to your rookies.

At some point, I am going to my own ultimate preparedness blog post, but for now these will suffice, as theyre probably better than what I can come up with.

Enjoy the weekend, Jive kick ass at the burg

Shameless plug

Recently I have discovered and listened to A LOT of the Nerdist podcasts. This a podcast created by Chris Hardwick (look him up on IMDB) and a few 0f his friends talking about nerdy sci/tech things and interviewing some pretty funny people. Recently they had Donald Glover on the podcast and it was hilarious.

I have been following Glover for a long time, since I started watching Derrick Comedy (see Bro Rape). Notably, he also was a writer on 30 rock, and is currently starring and writing on Community, as Troy. Also he raps under the name Childish Gambino, which surprisingly isn't that bad. So check out his podcast at http://www.nerdist.com/2010/09/nerdist-podcast-36-donald-glover/ and more importantly Community if you haven't seen it. Both are great and this guy has serious talent.

Vote for Me!

I submitted a design for a Jive sublimated jersey to the VC sublimated jersey competition on facebook. Below is my design, as well as a link to it on facebook. I am Submission #28 (it has my name on it) and if I win I get a free set of my design, which would then be donated to the Jive Turkeys (seeing as its a jersey for them). Thus please vote for me.

The process:
1)Go to the VC Ultimate Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/pages/VC-Ultimate/131225375740
2) Like the VC page! Your vote won't count unless you like the page also
3) Go to Submission #28, LIKE it!
4) tell all your friends, ultimate playing or not, to do the same

The design is based on an old school Orlando Magic warmup jacket, as the colors match pretty well. Should this jersey actually get made, regardless if it is because of the contest or not, some additions could be:
-add the jive circle to the left sleeve of the jersey
-Replace the white vertical lines on the bottom of the jersey with Jive phrases, such as the lyrics to the down south jam.
-Names on the back in the same style as the numbers

Thats what I got for now, thanks for voting!

A Post!

So its been a really long time coming, but here it is, a new post! I know its been a long time, and after much hassling and getting myself to do it, I am actually updating this thing. In the state of unemployment I am in, I figure now is as good a time as any to throw some stuff up here. SO! From now until a time undetermined (probably once I get a job and have real person things to do, but who knows) I am going to try and post to this on a semi regular basis. So stay tuned, and hopefully I'll actually keep my word this time of posting.

Anyway, recent life:
-Graduated college
-Golfing
-Chilling, lots of TV shows (NBC premieres last night were awesome by the way)
-Reading (Superfreakonomics and pillars of the earth are new summer read highlights)
-Applying to jobs, if you hear of anything in Finance or know someone, feel free to refer them to me
-Played summer BUDA with Merge, it was fun
-Playing Fall BUDA with Nocturnal Emissions, it is fun, ultimate under lights is interesting
-Playing club with Ubuntu, people are fun, jerseys are awesome, we made regionals, beeyahh!
-Getting in shape

That's my life in a nutshell. Probably most of my posts won't be too much about my life happenings, more thoughts on certain things. Mostly I will probably talk about ultimate, but I also foresee thoughts on music, movies, books, stuff, and just things I find cool. Anyway thats all the rambling I have for now. Night!
